About

Working with nature's elements & manmade materials to create unique jewellery & objects.

ELEMENTS >>
silver// gold // copper// titanium// brass// shibuichi// bi-metal//glass// stones// wood// resin// bone

All these metals & materials have their own special qualities, textures & colours. I love working with their characters- from the timeless properties of silver & gold to the unique beauty of alloys like shibuichi, to industrial copper & titanium with their surprising possibilities. I work colourful molten glass & carve collected wood when my hands need a break from working some of these hard metals!

TECHNIQUES >> forming & shaping// stone cutting & setting// enamelling// carving// painting // oxidisation & colouring

Over the past 15 years I've practiced both traditional & modern techniques, from the art of forming & shaping metals, stone setting, enamelling & etching, to the ancient method of casting. Whilst living in Australia I was lucky to share a lapidary workshop with experienced stonecutters who had been fossicking & cutting topaz, opals & sapphires found in the Outback, some of them for 60 years. Being a colour lover I also love to bring colour to pieces through paintwork & heat techniques. It’s also a slight obsession of mine creating idiosyncratic textures from unlikely sources!

INSPIRATION >>
urban environment// coasts// forests// botany// cultural & art history// travels

With London as my current home, inspiration is easily found absorbing its incredible cultural depth- history, architecture, awe-inspiring museums and galleries as well as the random hotch-potch of the city with its industrial textures and clashing colours. Before this, wandering the wilds of Scotland & spending years living next to the sea in another hemisphere, magpie-like I've always collected debris I find on my walks to inspire my objects. Whether it's discarded building materials or birds nests, ceramic shards or found fossils, interesting stones, delicate plants or just plastic beach litter, there’s beauty in all of them.
