EXPERIMENTS IN ENAMEL / by Amelia Gilmore

Peeled earrings

Trying out some new techniques with form and experimenting with colourful enamels. After shaping the metal, I drilled a hole at the back of each one so they could be made into earrings after enamelling. I couldn't solder or alter the shape without cracking the enamel so I had to plan ahead for the ear post. Some fiddly bending and riveting did the trick. Love the rusty effect of the edges and the dark scorings on this shimmering peachy enamel.

Enamel is a fussy medium requiring much preparation, patience and experimentation, resulting in many test pieces with all sorts of textures and colours.

Ah yes, now these are... a completely random and weird shape. Everyone has a different interpretation- Australian wildflower, octopus, possum claw, rocket launch... Odd as they are, these earrings seem to attract attention!

Bright fruity colours on these test pieces.
