LOST & FOUND / by Amelia Gilmore

I heart these earrings! I've worn them lots but lost one of them for a year and it was only reunited with its pair when I moved flat and found it lonely and dust covered under the chest of drawers.

They are my first experiment from a class in lost wax carving way back in 2006. I carved two hearts carefully from wax to be sent to a caster to have the shapes replaced with silver as the wax burned off, creating a replica of the original form in metal.

Strangely when I came to give the two wax shapes to my teacher, one had disappeared never to be found again. I made another at breakneck speed in about five minutes. Now I can't even tell which is the one I laboured over and which is the quickie but I love the uneven rustic look of both of them.
